When relationship patterns, emotional overwhelm, or recurring relational struggles continue despite insight and effort, the roots are often deeper than the present moment. I help individuals and couples understand and shift the deeper emotional, relational, and nervous system processes contributing to anxiety, disconnection, intimacy struggles, conflict, self-worth difficulties, and recurring life and relationship challenges to support more connected relationships, emotional security, and lasting change.
Hello, I’m Sondra. I provide trauma-informed therapy for adults and couples, with a focus on how early experiences, attachment patterns, and nervous system responses shape emotions, relationships, intimacy, self-worth, and overall well-being.
Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and self-aware, yet still find themselves caught in repeating cycles such as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, emotional shutdown, people-pleasing, relationship conflict, disconnection, intimacy difficulties, or feeling stuck in ways they cannot fully explain or change. Often, these experiences were shaped early in life and continue to influence present-day emotional regulation, relationships, self-worth, and connection.
I specialise in working with complex trauma, attachment wounds, chronic stress, relational difficulties, and couples experiencing emotional disconnection, repetitive conflict, intimacy struggles, betrayal, trust injuries, or difficulties that previous therapy has not fully resolved. Many of the couples I support deeply care for one another, yet no longer feel emotionally connected, secure, or understood within the relationship.
My couples work is designed for relationships affected by deeper emotional and relational injuries rather than surface-level conflict alone. Longer sessions provide the time and space needed to move beyond communication strategies and explore the underlying emotional, attachment, and nervous system processes driving disconnection, intimacy struggles, betrayal wounds, recurring conflict cycles, and emotional shutdown.
Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction or standard weekly conflict management, therapy helps couples understand the underlying relationship cycle, strengthen emotional connection, improve regulation, rebuild trust, and create more lasting relational change. Because meaningful relational work often requires more time than traditional counselling models allow, extended couples sessions are available to support deeper emotional processing, regulation, and relational repair.
My approach is direct, structured, collaborative, and focused on meaningful, lasting change. Therapy goes beyond insight alone, helping clients understand how these patterns developed and how to shift them emotionally, relationally, and within the nervous system. My work integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and experiential approaches to support deeper healing and more connected relationships.
In addition to traditional in-office therapy, I offer walk-and-talk therapy for individuals or couples who prefer to meet outdoors in a relaxed, natural setting.
If you are looking for therapy that goes beyond surface-level coping and addresses the deeper roots of emotional and relational struggles, this work may be a good fit.
As a certified member of the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Collaboration (PMVC), I offer comprehensive psychological assessments, with the option for psychiatric consultation when beneficial. This collaboration enables me to work alongside a psychiatrist both before and after your assessment, enhancing diagnostic clarity and treatment planning. Throughout this process, you will continue receiving care from me as your therapist.
While OHIP covers the psychiatrist’s consultation, my session fee will be billed at the standard therapy rate. This fee reflects the integrated clinical work involved and ensures you receive cohesive, team-based care. This approach combines a medical perspective with therapeutic depth, all while maintaining the safety and continuity of your therapy. The integrated clinical work involved ensures you receive cohesive, team-based care that combines medical perspective with therapeutic depth, without interrupting the safety and continuity of your therapy.
